Double-walled glass bowl with depiction of the sleeping Venus; false reverse glass painting (on parchment); on an older, Viennese (?) foot
Provenance
According to the 1721 inventory, the object was a gift by Charles William, margrave of Baden-Durlach to duke Frederick II of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. 1945 withdrawn from the museum. The tazza was discovered by the London art dealer Rainer Zietz at an auction of Sotheby's Amsterdam ( November 4, 2002) and identified as former Gotha collection property. The consignor agreed to return the piece to Gotha Castle. The handover by Sotheby's took place on 06.12.2002 in Gotha.
