Description
Knobbed ivory frame; inserted metal plate of shibuishi (silver-containing copper alloy); on it in engraving and high relief as well as inlays: Fukurokuju, bending his head far back, writing the Chinese character for fuku/well-being on the wall in front of him; in his left hand he holds the roller; to his right a brush stand with various strong brushes; signed: Minkoku.
Provenance
Acquired in 1908 by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan from the Vautier Collection; 1908 to 1942 Ostasiatica Collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; confiscated by the SD in Rotterdam in 1942.
