Description
Sennin (Toad Sennin) hops in a merry dance on his left leg, his right overturning in a kind of twisting movement; in the folds of his lively robe he presses the four-legged toad against him; he laughs at the top of his lungs, his beardless face twisting into a grotesque grin; his long hair on the back of his head falls to his shoulders; a leafy apron lies around his robe like a belt; remains of green and red (tongue and palate) painting.

Acquired in 1908 by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan from the Vautier Collection; 1908 to 1942 Ostasiatica Collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; confiscated by the SD in Rotterdam in 1942.
