Description
Tea master, Chajin, dressed in the ceremonial hakam, has fallen asleep while making tea; the bald skull has sunk onto the hands that were just turning the tea mill in which the dried tea leaves are finely ground for the tea ceremony (Ch no yu); the bald skull points to a priest of the Zen sect.

Acquired in 1908 by Herbert Ginsberg in Japan; 1908 to 1942 Ostasiatica Collection Herbert Ginsberg, Berlin; confiscated by the SD in Rotterdam in 1942.
