ANOTHER LARGE DERUTA GOLD LUSTRE DISH, boldly decorated in the sunk centre with a sphinx, on a tessellated pavement, holding a shield in her right paw, against a brilliant blue ground and in rich gold lustre, the narrow well border with scale ornament, the wide everted rim decorated with formal foliate motifs and large panels of scale ornament, the reverse with a pale brown glaze, the well-cut foot rim with two holes for suspension, circa 1530
