Description
The portrait of Cosima Wagner is realistically recognizable, in the bright, sparingly drawn brush stroke as a half portrait, the body slightly turned to the left but painted straight ahead.
Provenance
1880 (presumably) creation of the painting. Afterwards acquisition by Franz Wilhelm Beidler. 1941 Acquisition by Galerie Fischer from the family estate Franz Wilhelm Beidler. Mediation of the painting by the art dealer Hans Schedelmann Vienna, via the gallery Buemming, Darmstadt, further through director Posse to the Reich Chancellery. 1946 Takeover of the painting from the former depot in the "Führerbau" Munich in the CCP Munich, registration under the number Mü. 32838. 1961 release of the painting for the equipment of diplomatic missions of the Federal Republic of Germany with simultaneous transfer to the ministry of foreign affairs.
