Description
The seven lithographs are in a large blue folder, mounted on grey stiff paper, and measure about 34cm x 55cm each. They are depicted:
1.) „Viereck Kerkow“
2.) „Begegnung auf dem Schweinemarkte“
3.) „Stammgast, Stammende“
4.) „Ulrici“
5.) „Ausrufer Schotte“
6.) „Ah das ist Teplitz“
7.) „Weibergrau (Koltze)“
The seven sheets belong to the numerous humorous pictures of everyday life in Göttingen, which the Göttingen draughtsman and lithographer Friedrich Eduard Ritmüller (1805-1869) made.
Provenance
The Städtisches Museum Göttingen received the seven caricatures together with nine other objects from the Göttingen City Council on 21 February 1945. How the magistrate had come into possession of these caricatures is not comprehensible. The cartoons have no ownership notes or stamps.
