Description
Chanukkia which was intended to be fixed to the wall. It is made of chased brass sheet with a floral pattern and consists of a row of 8 cast brass oil lamps at the bottom edge, which are soldered on above an approximately 7 to 8 cm protruding collecting basin for oil and wick residues. The servant candle is unfortunately not preserved, but there is a small brass ring in the upper right area which was intended for the attachment of a wick holder. This form of Chanukkia was not uncommon in Central and Eastern Europe, especially as the use of oil as a fuel is obvious in view of the history of the Hanukkah festival and the miracle of oil associated with it. On the back of the object is a label with an old signature (Uil 27), which refers to a bundle purchased in 1983 from the estate of a deceased citizen of Emden.
