Description
The crowns or diadems are made of iron and decorated with white and coloured glass stones. Due to the small diameter of the crowns or diadems, they could be used as jewellery for a saint figure. Such votive gifts have been donated since the Middle Ages for figures of Mary and saints. Most of them, however, are much more splendid in material and are decorated with Christian symbolism, e.g. crosses. Christian symbols are missing in these objects. The exact function could therefore not yet be conclusively clarified. A use as a bridal crown is also possible.
Provenance
The Städtisches Museum Göttingen bought these crowns or diadems in August 1940 from the Göttingen merchant Wilhelm Hillebrecht together with four other objects for a total of 38 Reichsmark. According to the entry book, these objects came from a "Parisian old trade". The crowns and diadems have no ownership mark or stamp.
