Description
The eleven jewellery combs are made of horn, probably from cattle, and are richly decorated in different ways, for example leaves, branches and flowers have been sawn into the material.
Provenance
The Städtisches Museum Göttingen bought the eleven combs in June 1940 from the
Chimney sweep master Johannes Düker together with 16 other objects for a total of 70 Reichsmark. According to the entry book these combs came from a "merchant's shop in Sievershausen im Solling". The Jewish merchant family Friede Lehmann ran a colonial goods shop in Sievershausen until 1934/35. How the inventory of the colonial goods shop came into the possession of Johannes Düker is unclear. The combs have no ownership mark or stamp.
