Description
Verso: Ornamental frame: 1) top centre, white sticker, rectangular, in black letters, on it: [1st line:] "ON HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE", [framed in two longitudinal lines: 2nd line:] "FASTEN Envelope by gumming this Label across Flap.", [3rd line:] "OPEN by cutting Label instead of tearing Envelope.", On the right side there is a black circle, on the bottom left handwritten additions "No 2/7[?]", below, left-aligned: "Ppt. Ltd. Wt. 57691 4/45 (Lablest)"; 2) next to it, Post-It with logo of the Hasenkamp company, on it handwritten "St.L. 33"; 3) in the middle, right, sticker, rectangular, scratched out [Presumably this is the reference to Gutschow, which can be found in a similar form on two other works from the Schlüter auction.]; 4) next to it, in red oil colour "468" [= consecutive number of the Schlüter auction]; 5) lower left, handwritten "(29)". Stretcher: 6) top left, rectangular sticker, on which is handwritten in ink: "Vriendelijk dank voor de / bijzonder fraaie photo's / naar die aardige [...] [schilderij? / of Hendr Mommers! / [...] / Bredius / 29 Oct 14 (or 19?)". Many thanks to our colleague Dr. Annemarie Stefes for the transcription aid; 7) top left, centre, in red oil chalk "Gutschow"; 8) next to it, in blue oil chalk "M.29 "9) top right, centre, in blue oil chalk "[... ] in the exhibition"; 10) next to it, in blue oil chalk "7004" [= stock number from the Schlüter Auction List]; 11) right, in the middle, in red oil colour "468" (see 4); 12) bottom right, in the middle, red seal with intertwined letters; 13) bottom left, in the middle, red seal with intertwined letters; 14) bottom left, sticker, white, rectangular, on it handwritten "5"; Also: rites ribbon with white label for the planned but not carried out divestiture in 1990
