Portrait of a Velletrian [Portrait of a Albanian]
The painting shows the portrait of a lady in three-quarter profile. According to the title of the work, she comes from Velletri, a town in the Albanian mountains southeast of Rome. The sitter wears a red robe with a white collar, earrings and necklace, and a red headdress with bow and long pin. A red rose with leaves is attached to the height of her chest. In the background there is a vast landscape with hills and mountains, above it the blue sky. The title of the work is "Portrait of a Velletrine" as well as "Portrait of Albanian".
Three other versions of the same motif are known.
The painting is neither signed nor dated. It is assumed to have been painted around 1820.
