Description
Dark oak sideboard with open top. The cabinet has a non-continuous shelf in the base, two doors and a drawer with profiled filling and vertical strips of carved decoration. The lower body and drawer are decorated with carved flowers and tendrils. The body is set back and divided into two plate shelves (grooves for plates) and stands on two posts. The sides of the body are curved, the posts are turned round. The cabinet is equipped with metal fittings and bands.
Provenance
The cabinet is said to have been bought in 1936 or somewhat earlier from a Jewish family in Emden who were about to emigrate in order to establish their own household in Gifhorn. The donor's mother expressed the wish that the furniture should be returned to East Frisia.
