Description
In the painting a vision of St. Anthony is represented Christ as a boy appears to prayer kneeling saint on an altar table. The Christ-child's head is surrounded by a radiant halo. Above a dance of winged cherubs is surrounded of clouds, white lilies springy. In the left foreground is an open book, which appears to exceed in the viewer-room aesthetic boundary of the painting.
Provenance
In June 1936, the painting of the Jewish art dealer Samuel Bercovitz came over the Catholic art dealer Rudolf Sobczyk to the Catholic parish of Salvator in Berlin-Lichtenrade. A Nazi persecution-related loss of assets can not be ruled out.
