Young Lady in white dress with red scarf [Portrait of a Lady with a red scarf and carnation]
The painting is a bust portrait of a lady in three-quarter profile with a curly hairstyle and golden earrings. There is a red flower in her hair. She is wearing a white, elegant dress and has a red scarf around her neck and over her shoulders. The titles „Bildnis einer jungen Dame in weissem Kleid und rotem Schal“ (Portrait of a young lady in a white dress and a red scarf), „Bildnis einer Dame mit rotem Halstuch und Nelke im Haar“ (Portrait of a lady with a red scarf and a carnation in her hair) and „Junge Dame in weißem Kleid und rotem Schal“ (Young lady in a white dress and a red scarf) have survived. The work is the counterpart to the artist's „Junge Dame in weißem Kleid mit blauem Schal“ (Young Lady in a White Dress with a Blue Scarf), which is also in federal ownership.
The work is signed and dated "Waldmüller 1829" at the top right.
