Art dealer Hermann Pächter (art dealer and contemporary of Menzel), in the collection of Eduard L. Behrens since 1888; 23 March 1935: George Behrens informs the Kunsthalle Hamburg that he intends to sell the painting via Uhde-Bernays, Starnberg.
01 April 1935: George Behrens is informed by the Reich and Prussian Minister of the Interior that the painting will be placed on the list of national cultural assets.
05.04.1936 housed in the National Gallery; 07.04.1936 returned to George Behrens at Uhde-Bernay's request; sold to the art shop Paffrath in 1938.
Proven on the list of national cultural assets June 1938, indicated as owner: Galerie Paffrath, Düsseldorf; 1955 property of the art shop Franz Resch, Gauting (cf. exhibition catalogue Adolph von Menzel on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his death. May to June 1955. Museum Dahlem); sold by Resch to the Georg Schäfer Collection in August 1955
