Description

Shape:

So-called ginger jar; footless, oval body with horizontal shoulder; short neck; flat cover without knob.

Décor:

Four white oval fields on blue ground, famille verte style decoration, a bizarrely shaped stylised rock surrounded by gnarled branches bearing splendid flowers, on the rock probably a nest-like structure with a sitting bird, from a high branch a similar bird looks down at the nest; finely painted golden tendrils and flower rosettes on the base of the outside and the cover; the cover bears (probably two) fan-shaped famille verte style fields with flowering branches above an earth zone.

Manufacturer's mark: underglaze blue double ring

Comment:

The cover shown on the historical photo is preserved: SKD, porcelain collection, inv. no. PE 7444; dimensions: h. 5.4 cm, d. 12.4 cm.

(Turmzimmer, vormal. Residenzschloß Dresden)."
