Description
Shape:
Footless hexagonal vessel; tapering outside, slant shoulder; short, vertical neck.
Décor:
Alternating hibiscus mutabilis, phoenix and peony bushes paitned on the outside; shoulder covered with a colored ground, arabesques of different colors and flowers recessed, the flowers alternating with transverse oval cartouches, in it a dove with outstretched wings and a spread tail on a white ground; a straight meander band around the neck.
Manufacturer's mark: underglaze-blue crossed swords.
Comment:
The cover shown in the historical photo is preserved: SKD, porcelain collection, inv. no. PE 5300 (Palais no. N 137w; from HMA no. only paint particles remained); dimensions: h. 6.3 cm, d. 11.3 cm.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, tower room; the collection of porcelain, together with the carpets, furnishings from the porcelain gallery and scientific material (10 boxes), was relocated to 16 different locations in a total of 1211 boxes. The relocation sites, some of which were castles and manor houses, served as refugee accommodation after 1945. As part of the collection was later offered for sale by private individuals or found in private estates, it is assumed that some of the losses were due to looting and destruction. According to the loss report for the porcelain collection from 1991, a partial transport to the Soviet Union cannot be ruled out.
