Burning Castle

In 1943 Ilse Göring-Diels and her husband Rudolf Diels received 5 paintings and 6 watercolours by Emil Nolde on loan [Cf. handwritten list by Emil Nolde, March 29, 1943, with location "President Diels. Berlin-Grunewald. Taubenstr. 20"]; "Burning Castle" (1228), "Twilight Hour at the Harbor" (990) and "Sea and White Cloud" (1182) were brought to safety in 1944 by Herman Göring at Mauterndorf Castle (province of Salzburg) [See: Urban 990, 1028, 1182, 1191, 1228]; Lost since 1945.
