purchase by the commissioner and brother of Robert Graetz, Hugo Graetz, from the artist on 30 March 1924 (purchase must have taken place shortly after the Max Pechstein exhibition in Danzig in January 1924, from which Hugo Graetz acquired further works); owned by Robert Graetz until at least 1941; 1942 purchase by the family of the present owner

Negotiations are currently underway between the parties to find a just and fair solution in accordance with the international "Washington Principles" of 1998 and the German "Joint Declaration" of 1999.
