Exchanged in 1832 in the art trade for a duplicate of a painting by Wouwerman for the Dresden Picture Gallery; in 1937 on loan to a branch of the German Wehrmacht, the so-called Nebelabteilung I in Königsbrück, later in the medical-policlinical institute of the University of Leipzig; missing since 1945; identified as a lost painting at the Dorotheum auction house, Vienna, in 2012; after agreement with the consignors, the painting returned to the Dresden gallery.
