Else von Arnim, from the house of Suckow (* 1834, † 1919)

Portrait of a child: a girl of perhaps twelve to fourteen years of age, wearing a large straw hat, sitting in the open air, dressed in a short-sleeved, wrinkled summer dress, which leaves the shoulders bare and, running out in a curve, reveals a light-coloured, probably white undergarment and equally light-coloured trousers and stockings, looking directly at the viewer; her hair is tied in a bow falling freely to the right and left, combed tightly against her head from a central parting under her hat, a long, dark plait falling over her shoulders to the right; in her hands she holds a still open wreath of blossoms, the right one obviously resting on the back of the little bench on which she is sitting; in the background a cloudy painted landscape, with a larger tree on the right.
The photo taken by W. Naucke in Wolfsburg shows that the painting already had considerable craquellèe, especially in the landscape background, and obviously grainy soiling in the lower right of the painting layer.
