Description
King Augustus II of Poland, Elector of Saxony, wearing armour and a fur-lined cloak, sitting on a rearing horse; rectangular pedestal with satyr head (and subsequently attached decorative AR monogram).
Provenance
The statuette was offered in Germany in 1987/88 by the Danish art dealer Preben Bronée. In 2001, with the help of the Kulturstiftung der Länder, the Federal Government Commissioner for Cultural and Media Affairs, the Free State of Thuringia, the Ernst von Siemens Foundation and the Cologne Kunsthaus Lempertz, it was repurchased from private Danish possession for the Gotha Schlossmuseum of Gotha.
