Description
In contrast to Lepke, Eduard Fuchs assigned the clay jug to the Arabic region and not Chinese grave finds of the Han period: „Daneben eine Reihe wichtiger Gräberfunde … von diesen sei nur ein arabischer Wasserkrug aus dem 8. Jahrhundert hervorgehoben, den Kenner zu den allerschönsten Stücken dieser Art zählen“

Provenance
Eduard Fuchs Collection acquired between 1912-1922 and in his possession there until 1933; 25.10.1933 confiscated by the Gestapo; forced sale (payment of Reichsfluchtsteuer) by his daughter Gertraud Fuchs: Auktionshaus Rudolph Lepke Berlin, Catalogue 2115, p. 11 - on 15.10 and 16.10.1937 this vessel was auctioned as no. 108: "GROSSER TONKRUG mit drei Henkeln mit türkisfarbener Glasur, stark irisierend. Höhe 49 cm. Han.“ According to the annotated Lepke catalog (Kunsthistorische Bibliothek, Den Haag), lot 51 was auctioned by the sinologist Dr. Walter Fuchs (1902-1979) for 670,- RM (estimate: 750,- RM). The transcript of the auction 2115 at the Reich Chamber of Fine Artists notes "Fuchs" in typescript and confirms the price of 670,- RM (Landesarchiv Berlin, A Rep. 243-04 Reich Chamber of Fine Arts - Landesleitung Berlin); whereabouts unknown
