Description
Maria sits under the rafter roof and holds the child in her lap; the child reaches into a bowl of coins that is handed to him by the aged, kneeling king; behind him, the king with brown curls bows, pressing a red hat to his chest and presenting a bossed goblet; the coloured king carries a disk-shaped luxury vessel; in the background, the Annunciation to the Shepherds is shown.

1935 in reorganized exhibition (file 3405); 1943 still present in the museum (catalog 1943, sheet 264), later transferred with other Cranach paintings (ThHStAWeimar, C 1624); end of January 1946 loss in Reinhardsbrunn; current location: Pushkin Museum Moscow, object:101048, no. ЭЖ-924 (L. Cranach the Elder, "Die Anbetung der Könige," 85 x 56 cm); shown at the exhibition 'Kriegsbedingt verbrachte Kulturgüter' in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow in the spring of 1995.
