Queen Sophie Dorothea of Hanover, wife of King Frederick William I in Prussia (* 1687, † 1757)

Full-length portrait of a lady in state robe with an elaborate embroidered floral border, seen frontally, her head turned slightly to the left, her right arm resting as if on an armrest, with her left hand pointing obliquely downwards;
Hammerschmidt 2001 describes:
"The picture shows a woman in 'more mature' years. She is wearing a costly robe. In her hair are 2 hair slides with 3 large gemstones each, each stone is set with numerous diamonds. Her neck is adorned with a precious gold chain with precious stones. The evening gown shows elaborately worked floral motifs at the bustline, at the ends of the short sleeves and at the lower edge of the bell gown, which are connected to each other at the mentioned places. This precious work appears very plastic and is similar in technique to the so-called crank work. A cape of ermine fur hangs around her shoulders. To the left of the painting is the prince's crown."
According to current knowledge, the paintings from the holdings of Field Marshal Matthias Johann von der Schulenburg were inscribed on the reverse side with the same or nearly the same wording as the entries in his inventories. However, these inscriptions may have been at least partially removed during restoration.
