Description

signed and dated.

‘In the centre on the far bank; a bridge provides access from the right. The right bank is steep and rises from the left background from the plain to the right. On the far right, on the heights, a church tower; on the left in the background a village on the river. A man with two horses and a dog on a promontory in front left; a large rowing boat is being loaded with sacks; a barge with four people behind it on the right. Other boats in the middle of the river or near the right bank. Labelled on a large rowing boat (left foreground): VG 1652.’ (Beck)
