Description
Statuette of St. Catherine, carved from boxwood; the figure wears a belted gown, coverd by a wide cloak, which she has gathered under her right arm and scrunches in her hand; this way, she gains a clear view of the king at her feet who seems to be speaking to Catherine; she holds the sword in her left; counterpart to K254.
Provenance
In 1999, the Schnütgen Museum in Cologne, which had acquired the sculptures from private ownership in 1970 without knowledge of the former provenance of the Gotha collection, returned them to the Schlossmuseum Gotha.
