Description
The wide gilded brim is engraved with birds and arabesques; the fitting with two female busts seems to miss the front strip; the node is made up of a kneeling female figure, who is naked except for a veil which trails from her head over her back down to her lap; the tall foot, as well as the lid, are decorated with wrought sea creatures, originally in multicoloured enamels; on the middle part of the foot, there are three fine open-work silver ornaments (of which one is missing); the cover is topped by Neptune, raising the (now missing) trident, and three sea-horses (of which one is missing); Neptune's right foot is broken; maker's mark on the top the lid.
