Description
A peasant and a woman play cards at a table, while a smoking soldier watches them; the peasant grabs his head despairingly because the woman shows him two aces; a little girl pulls his purse out of his pocket, while a dog drinks the milk from the two pails beside him; another child pulls at the woman's dress; the background of the large room is filled with soldiers, a trumpeter stands on the right; one can see an officer and other soldiers through the open door.

Still present in the museum in 1943 (catalog 1943, p. 184); current location: Pushkin Museum Moscow, object 1010181, no. ЭЖ-992 ("An der Wache", 59.5 x 78 cm); shown at the exhibition 'Kriegsbedingt verbrachte Kulturgüter' in spring 1995 in Moscow at the Pushkin Museum.
