Description
bondend; ridge turret standing on ridge tile;
With the fabulous animal it could concern a seaweed roof rider, since the condition surface represents surely a ridge tile. Remarkable is the similarity to gargoyles in European cathedral construction. (UW)

Collection Eduard Fuchs acquired after 1924 and in his possession there until 1933; 25.10.1933 confiscation by the Gestapo; forced sale (payment of Reichsfluchtsteuer) by his daughter Gertraud Fuchs: Auction House Rudolph Lepke Berlin, Catalogue 2115, p. 9 - on 15.10 and 16.10.1937 this sculpture was auctioned under No. 76: "TONFIGUR: Stehendes Fabeltier; weißlichgelb glasiert. Höhe 27 cm. Tang (gekittet). Abbildung Tafel 3“. According to the annotated Lepke catalog (Kunsthistorische Bibliothek, Den Haag) by Heinrich Peters, managing director of China-Bohlken, Potsdamer Straße 126, Berlin-Mitte), the sculpture was sold for 23,- RM (no estimate). The transcript of the auction 2115 at the Reich Chamber of Fine Arts typewrites "Bohlken" and confirms the price of 23,- RM (Landesarchiv Berlin, A Rep. 243-04 Reich Chamber of Fine Arts - Landesleitung Berlin); whereabouts unknown
