Description
folio or loose-leaf book-like collection of drawings/paintings of synagogues; the folio contains individual paintings that were made in a combination of drawing, and painting with watercolors, gouache and perhaps pastel(s); at first glance, the folio seems to be a book; however, inside one finds the individual, loose, unbound drawings/paintings
Provenance
The artist book belonged to claimant's uncle, who lived in Paris, France and Lódz, Poland during WWII. He died in the Austrian concentration camp Ebensee in May of 1945. The exact circumstances of the theft are not known. The work has been located in the Jewish Museum in New York since 1955.
