Interior of St Peter's Church around 1630
The painting shows part of the interior of St Peter's Church before it was destroyed by the Hamburg fire of 1842. Light falls into the church from the right, where there are few visitors. The light illuminates a large figure of a bishop on one of the church's white round pillars, carrying a small church building on his hand. At the sides, between the round pillars, high wooden walls decorated with carvings and ornate window and door openings have been installed, visually separating the area behind from the church interior. Back: frame: bottom right a sticker with the number "193" torn off at the end, in the centre with chalk "199", above it a sticker with the dates of the picture, also still: "[...]45", left side: "WM & Co. 113, 5 Bo Ww", top right in the corner: remains of a sticker, on picture carrier: bottom: Sticker MHG with image data, above "Composition af CG Bunds. 1810 G6", below: “Composi[...] af S. Bundsen 1810. Innen[...] Petrikrche in Hamb[...]”, top right: “1761, 1889”.
