Provenance
The painting by Russel of a portrait of a woman was bought by Edgar Dreyfus at the Hotel Drouot, Vente Pelletier, 8 & 9 December 1930, lot no. 1. The contents of the Hôtel particulier at 24 square du Bois de Boulogne, Paris (16) were removed by the German authorities in the summer of 1943, according to a witness. Listed in a restitution request made by the French government in February 1962; it is uncertain if it was restituted to the family.
