Description
Brass chandelier with 24 light fittings with an addition of 12 light fittings, with which the chandelier was equipped in connection with its electrification (ca. 1898). The arrangement of these additional fittings is the most reliable way of distinguishing the two chandeliers, although there also appear to have been slight differences in the hangings. The basket consisted of assembled cast brass parts mounted on an iron rod. A lavish crystal hanging was attached to the winding arms of the basket and consisted of repeating hanging parts.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, 2nd floor west wing, Yellow Salon, installed in 1890/1892; Listed in inventory no. 1 dated January 31, 1920, as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal house of 1924, which, as room inventory marked with a red cross, belongs to the state; The chandelier that is missing today was moved from the Yellow Salon (“Boule Room”) to its relocation site at Kauppa Castle (Bautzen district) on March 9, 1944. However, along with the salvaged objects from Kauppa Castle, as part of the clearance of the salvage depots east of the Elbe ordered by Reich Governor Mutschmann and the relocation of the salvaged objects west of the Elbe, a light fixture from the boules room, covered with slats was transported to Schieritz Castle and the chandelier was installed in the entrance hall on the first floor of Schieritz Castle. Nothing is known about the circumstances surrounding the loss of this object. A loss in connection with the events of World War II. is assumed.
