Albrecht Thaer Medal
Obverse: Portrait of Albrecht Thaer, above the head inscription "ALBRECHT THAER"", below "GEB. D. 14 MAY 1752 D. D. 26 OCT. 1828". Reverse: framed by ears of grain and plants inscription "ZUR ERINNERUNG AN DEN BEGRÜNDER DER RATIONELLEN LANDWIRTHSCHAFT - BERLIN 1839"
The medal was bought by the numismatist Wilhelm Bonness (1883-1959), who lived in Celle, at the auction of Otto Helbing successors on 24 March 1942 (lot no. 3134) on behalf of the Bomann Museum for 5 RM. It was consigned together with 51 coins from the Kingdom of Hanover and a larger number of Reich coins and personal medals by "B. in H." (possibly the dealer Emil Backhaus from Hanover). One third of the auction goods were consigned by a "Reichsbehörde", probably involving seized property.
