Description
The open-air painting shows the outside area of a shipyard on the banks of the Elbe near Finkenwerder. Several men are working on a damaged sailing boat. A densely leafy tree on the right shades their workplace. Numerous planks of wood are leaning against the trunk, and other pieces of wood have been placed next to it in a disorganised manner. A chicken is pecking in the sawdust that forms a soft, flat cushion around the boat. A rooster standing close by seems to be attentively observing the viewer of the picture. In the background, a short footbridge leads onto the water. Back: top left on frame: number "182" circled in pencil, right side of frame: "Heumann" in pencil, bottom right: Inv. no. old stock: "AB1401" in red chalk and as grey sticker.
