Description

Man in clerical dress (mitre, cloak, book under his right arm) bends towards a child, stretches out his left arm, the child in turn stretches out with his left arm towards the old man with beard, child has a shovel/spoon in his right hand, wears only a simple cloth as a robe, kneels with one leg on the ground, the other raised up

Provenance

Auction at Rudolph Lepke's auction house, Berlin, on 14 March 1905, sale to "Greve"; probably during the war, at the latest since 9 July 1945 until today Lippische Landesbibliothek Detmold, initially handed over in trust by the British Military Government Detmold, since 20 July 1945 officially handed over for safekeeping.
