Description
This Esther scroll is in an olive wood cover decorated with a city view of Jerusalem. The writing on the scroll is simple and has no illustrations.
Provenance
A digital list of donations to the Historical Museum in Köthen (Anhalt) for the years 1937 to 1942 contains the entry "Torah, rolled in a wooden capsule (inscription: Jarusa)". The object presumably came to the museum in the course of being handed over to the Gestapo in 1941. In the inventory files of the Museum Synagoge Gröbzig, it is noted that the Esther scroll was donated by the then Heimatmuseum Köthen in February 1967. This gives rise to a suspicion that it is one and the same object.
