Description
Silver columbine goblet (gold-plated) with vase-shaped shaft and six humps in the lid, the kuppa, the shaft and at the foot. On the lid there is a bouquet of flowers, with white silver leaves at the outlet and foot. The foot of the cup was probably added in the 19th century, since it is probably an Augsburg work from the second half of the 17th century. The stamps on it are probably a pine cone and an unknown master stamp HO. It is possible that the foot was originally used as the lid of another trophy. The upper part, on the other hand, is clearly a Nuremberg work. The inspection mark presumably dates from the time between 1609 and 1629. The master stamp may be attributed to Hans Beutmüller, who died in 1622. Below the foot there is a sticker with the no. 12640.
Provenance
Possibly offered at the auction at Lempertz (Cologne) from 16 to 18 October 1928 as lot no. 426 (Fig. 12) and/or at Hugo Helbing (Munich) on 17 December 1929 and following days as lot no. 250. The details on appearance, stamps, weight and, in the case of the Lempertz auction, also the illustration could be identical, but the assignment cannot yet be proved with certainty. Until 1941: unknown collection or whereabouts. Probably offered 1941 by Hans W. Lange at the auction from 19 to 21 May as lot no. 2 and not sold. Delivered by "H. L., Berlin", probably Hans W. Lange himself. Description, brands and dimensions correspond. 1942 offered at the auction of Hans W. Lange on 12 and 13 May 1942 as lot no. 331 and acquired by the director of the Bomann Museum for the city of Celle. Delivered by "W. L., Berlin", presumably Hans W. Lange himself.
