The painting shows a social scene with numerous figures. In the centre of the work is a standing man to the right with a yellow skirt and blue waistband, blowing a trumpet. To his right is another standing man on the left, dressed in high attire and leaning his left hand on a walking stick. On the right edge of the picture is a woman in a long dress with a child sitting on her right thigh. The woman is leaning towards the right edge of the picture and listening to a man standing behind her. A dog is depicted in the lower right-hand corner of the picture and a monkey in the left-hand part. There are numerous figures in the centre ground, most of whom are facing the group of figures in the foreground. Architecture can be recognised in the background, on the left an archway in which two boys are standing.
The titles of the work are "Fairground scene with a performance by a monkey playing music", "street-scene and soldiers and officers"; "street scene + soldiers and officers", "Officers' company".
The painting is signed "A. Palamedes" at the bottom left.
