The poetry

On yellowish clouds a winged female genius with a white dress and purple cloak is reclining, wearing a laurel wreath in her blond hair, from the centre of which a flame emanates. The figure strikes a lyre which she holds in her left arm. On the left two putti, one playing a shepherd's flute and the other holding an arrow in the raised rake. To the right of the genius scrolls and an open book with names of poets and musicians.

Front side signed in the centre right: "Vincent / 1811"

Verso: reverse covaer lower left: Label BStGS; stretcher upper right, handwritten on label: "Ölgemälde 66 [60?]"; stretcher upper left, handwritten in blue "31809" [=Munich CCP no.]; stretcher lower right: Label BStGS, stamp in red on it: "geprüft 1959"; vertical central strut at top, handwritten in red: "[illegible, possibly '5']"; frame at top right, handwritten on label: "Leihgabe 13001".

According to the property card of the Munich CCP on the reverse also a label of the auction house Hans W. Lange, No. 68. Such a label was not found during the inspection of the reverse.
