Portrait of Countess Wolkenstein

The painting shows Marie Countess von Schleinitz (1842-1912), born von Buch, later Countess Wolkenstein, as a half figure in three-quarter view to the left and looking at the viewer against a golden brown background. Her right hand is placed at hip height on her left arm. The Countess is wearing a light blue dress with long, flared sleeves and a fur-trimmed neckline, under which a white blouse stands out. On her right wrist she has put a bracelet on, her neck is decorated by a black ribbon with a pendant. Her dark, curly hair is lightly tucked under a dark blue beret, single strands of hair fall over her shoulder.
The work is signed and dated "F. Lenbach 1872" (?) in the upper right corner. The date is not clearly legible. It could be the year 1872 or 1873, in which the artist commuted between Vienna and Munich.
