Description
Chalk drawing. Study of the Prussian Lieutenant General Hans Karl von Winterfeld (1707-1757) in three-quarter profile facing left while unfastening his sash. Half of his head is overlapped by the edge of the picture. The work is a study for the series ‘From King Frederick's Time’, which consists of twelve woodcuts and was published by Alexander Duncker in Berlin in 1856. Adolph von Menzel's motifs were cut into wood by Eduard Kretzschmar at the time. The work is neither signed nor dated. It is assumed to have been created in 1851.
