Three invalids playing cards
The painting points into an interior with simple furniture. In the foreground three men are sitting at a table playing cards. On the table are filled jugs and a red cloth hanging down the front edge of the table. The men face each other and are dressed in long, dark coats. The middle one wears a blue cap. In the background there is a painting on the wall above the men's heads. To the left of it is a brown peasant's cupboard with vessels on it. On the right edge of the painting is a niche with a window. Both "Three invalids playing cards" and "Three customs officers playing cards" have survived as titles.
The work is signed "Friedr. Friedländer" at the bottom right, but not dated.
