Description
As the French and German texts inscribed in ink by the artist prove, some presentations are based on the inventions of other artists: one after a medal on Louis XIV, another after a copperplate engraving. Sometimes the descriptions are described in more detail in words. Both sheets executed in watercolor and colored pencil and inscribed "Wien den 16ten Julius 1776" "Johann Paul Kolbe". Both with pencil inscription on the back, bottom right, "G 1946", last number underlined blue [probably comes from Lämmle itself, cf. HB 25840, SP 6600a to SP 6603]; Hz 4372,2: additional inscription in blue colored pencil, lower right, above the pencil inscription, "290", pencil inscription on the back centered "Jean Paul Kolbe / Nr. 290 Tafel XXXIX" [290 was the lot no. of the object in the Weinmüller auction]
