Unknown Lady
Bust portrait of a Biedermeier lady in a blue atlas dress with black, pinned-up hair, (pearl) chain jewellery and earrings, dark background. Wide decorated gold frame. On the reverse an old label with the inscription "8034 OEFU" and the remains of another label glued on.
The female portrait was purchased in 1942 for 150 RM from the art shop Karl von der Porten, Prinzenstraße 21 in Hanover. The exact meaning of the label is not yet certain, but it could be an indication that the art shop owner had previously purchased the portrait at an auction of Jewish property.
