Until May 1941, the artworks were owned by Edmund Wolfson (1870-1952). Wolfson emigrated in 1938 and had left his possessions behind. The removal goods stored at the Gustav Knauer shipping company until May 1941 were confiscated by the Gestapo at the beginning of the same month. The auction took place between 10 and 15 July 1941 at the Alfred Berkhan auction house. The whereabouts of the artworks are unknown and the buyers could not be identified.
The individual artworks are listed below with details of the buyers and hammer prices:
- No. 1247 ‘Etching (No. 4)’ was purchased by a buyer ‘Wöpke’ for 4 Reichsmark.
- No. 1248 ‘Bild auf Holz, Interieur’ was purchased for 35 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Warus’.
- No. 1249 ‘kl. Bild von Jost (Nr. 4)’ was purchased for 15 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Warus’.
- No. 1259. ‘6 etchings (box 4)’ was auctioned for 5 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Bautz’.
- No. 1260. ‘kl. Bild Alter Fritz (Kiste 4)’ was auctioned for 6 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Axe’.
- No. 1263. ‘Picture of water with a boat (box 4)’ was auctioned for 11 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Axe’.
- No. 1264. ‘gr. family picture (No. 97)’ was purchased for 20 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Herzberg’.
- No. 1265. ‘gr. family picture (No. 94)’ was bought at auction for 10 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Herzberg’.
- No. 1266. ‘gr. family picture (No. 91)’ was bought by a buyer ‘Herzberg’ for 10 Reichsmark.
- No. 1267. ‘gr. family picture (boy) (No. 95)’ was bought at auction for 10 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Jacobs’.
- No. 1269. ‘gr. picture by Ettlinger (No. 92)’ was purchased for 25 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Petsch’.
- No. 1270 ‘Stich Napoleon (No. 20)’ was purchased at auction for 1 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Wöpke’.
- No. 1271 ‘Picture of houses in Girgenti (No. 85)’ was purchased at auction for 27 Reichsmark by a buyer ‘Schindler’.
