Description
A CASTEL DURANTE ARMORIAL PLATE, by Nicola Pellipario, painted beneath an archway with the impaled arms of Gian Francesco Gonzaga, Marquis of Mantua, and Isabella d'Este, on the foot of one column the motto " NEC SPE NEC METV " and on the other the numeral XXVII, in the foreground Semele, daughter of Cadmus and beloved of Jupiter, being devoured in flames, Mercury on the left, note the attractive festoons of blue curtains and blue pillars against a fine architectural background, circa 1520
