Description
A basket chandelier with approx. light fittings. The basket most likely consisted of assembled cast brass parts mounted on an iron rod. This was covered with individual glass elements and fitted with a lower end element, the so-called “Bas de Lustre”. The richly decorated arms of the basket were adorned with a lavish crystal hanging consisting of recurring hanging elements. A ten-pointed star was always combined with a “baroque” pendulum.
Provenance
Dresden Castle, 2nd floor east wing, large dining room; In inventory list no. 1 dated January 31, 1920, as part of the settlement agreement between the Free State of Saxony and the former royal house of 1924, a 1 large bronze chandelier with glass pendants, electric is listed for the large dining room (II. Stck.) which is marked with a red cross as room inventory belonging to the state; The exact date of removal is not on record, but the removal measures were completed in the summer of 1944. The chandelier from the Great Dining Hall was probably transported to its relocation site at Rammenau Castle on April 26, 1944. Nothing is known about the circumstances surrounding the loss of this object.It is assumed that the object was lost in connection with the events of the Second World War.
